Your Practitioner

Mellany Hong — R.TCMP · RMT

Mellany has practised Traditional Chinese Medicine for more than fifteen years. Cupping is one of several modalities she draws on — applied where the assessment calls for it, rather than as a fixed routine.

Because Mellany is also a Registered Massage Therapist, cupping can be woven together with hands-on soft-tissue work in a single appointment — an integration most clinics in Burlington keep separate.

What it supports

Where cupping fits in your care

Cupping uses gentle suction to lift and decompress soft tissue. Within a TCM session, it offers support for a range of concerns — always planned around what your assessment shows.

Muscle tension

Decompression of tight, restricted muscle and fascia across the back, shoulders, and limbs.

Circulation

Suction draws blood flow to the area, supporting the body's natural recovery processes.

Post-exercise recovery

A recovery tool for active adults and athletes, often paired with soft-tissue work.

Back and shoulder tightness

Relief from the chronic upper-back and shoulder tension common with desk-bound posture.

Stress and tension

Many people find cupping deeply settling — part of a treatment that calms a heightened nervous system.

Paired treatment

Cupping combined with acupuncture or massage in one session, drawing on both of Mellany's registrations.

Approaches

How cupping is applied

Fixed cupping

Cups held in place over an area to decompress and draw circulation to restricted tissue.

Sliding cupping

Cups moved across the skin with oil — a broader, massage-like release across a region.

Fire cupping

The traditional method, using brief heat to create gentle suction before the cup is placed.

Within a full session

Cupping integrated with acupuncture, moxibustion, or massage — never an isolated routine.

Common questions

Before you book

Can I book cupping on its own?+

Cupping is delivered within a Traditional Chinese Medicine session rather than as a standalone appointment. When you book, choose a TCM session length and Mellany will plan your cupping treatment based on your assessment.

Does cupping leave marks?+

Cupping can leave temporary circular marks where suction was applied. They are not bruises in the painful sense and typically fade within a few days to a week.

Is cupping right for me?+

Most healthy adults tolerate cupping well. Mellany will review your health history at your first visit and adapt — or set aside — cupping based on what's appropriate for you.

Is it covered by insurance?+

Cupping is delivered within a TCM session, and many extended-health plans in Ontario cover Traditional Chinese Medicine by a registered practitioner. Direct billing is available for most plans.
